名探偵コナン » Volume 13 » Page 30

A news broadcast interrupts the baseball game Tetsuhiro is watching over at his neighbor’s beach house.

哲浩(てつひろ):
「あのー… ラジオ(なに)ありませんか?」
“Um... Do you have a radio or something?”
Literal: “Um... Is there a radio or something?”
綾子(あやこ):
「あ、ありますけど…」
“Ah, there is...”
コナン:
「でもこの試合(しあい)ラジオじゃやってないみたいだよ…」
“But it seems this game isn't being broadcast on the radio.”

Key Points

1〜か(なに)か = or something like that
  • Tetsuhiro is asking for a radio, but he is not insisting on that exact item.
  • The expression leaves room for any similar device that would let him hear the broadcast.
2ラジオ is the example, not the full limit
  • ラジオか(なに) means “a radio or something”.
  • The point is access to the game or news, not specifically owning a radio.
3ありませんか is a polite request
  • The line is phrased gently because he is asking to borrow something from another person.
  • That politeness fits the hesitant opening あのー.
