カードキャプターさくら » Volume 4 » Page 88

During an overnight school trip, a classmate tells a ghost story right before bedtime. While everyone else easily falls asleep, Sakura is too scared to close her eyes. The next morning, when Sakura washes her face, Tomoyo hands her a towel.

さくら:
「ありがとーーー」
“Thank you!”
知世(ともよ):
「きのうは ちゃんと(ねむ)れました?」
“Were you able to properly sleep last night?”

Key Points

  1. ちゃんと means properly or as expected

    • Tomoyo asks whether Sakura was able to sleep properly after the ghost story.

    • It checks whether the action was completed in a satisfactory way, not just whether sleep happened at all.

  2. 眠れました? asks about ability

    • (ねむ)れる means to be able to sleep.
