Body and substance with 体

Etymology

This kanji is built from 亻 (person) and 本 (root, base, origin). These invoke imagery of the person together with the base or central structure that supports them, bringing attention to the body’s main frame and essential substance.

死体 (Dead body)

死体(したい) refers to the body of a human or animal whose vital functions have ceased. It is a term that objectively and literally describes a medical or biological state.

It combines 死 (dead) with 体 (body) to show a dead body.

Upon walking in on a murder scene, Conan goes right to work making observations about the blood-covered body and its surroundings. He notes how the room is torn apart save for one upright chair beside the deceased.

Literal: “Furthermore, this room, which is too hot...”
死亡推定時刻(しぼうすいていじこく)をくるわせるためなのか…」
“Is it to confuse the estimated time of death...?”
Literal: “Is it for the purpose of throwing off the estimated time of death...?”
「いや、まてよ… それなら死体(したい)(みず)につけた(ほう)が…」
“No, wait... If that's the case, it would be better to put the corpse in water...”
Literal: “No, wait... if that were so, putting the corpse in water would be...”

体育 (Physical education)

体育(たいいく) refers to educational activities that promote healthy physical development through appropriate physical activity and cultivate physical abilities and attitudes conducive to a healthy lifestyle.

天体 (Celestial body)

天体(てんたい) is a general term for stars and other matter found in outer space. This includes not only the Sun, Moon, planets, stars, and comets located outside Earth’s atmosphere, but also galaxies and nebulae.

It combines 天 (heaven) with 体 (body) to show a body in the heavens.

解体 (Dismantling)

解体(かいたい) refers to the process of taking apart something that has been assembled or is held together as a single unit. By extension, the term is used in various contexts depending on the subject, such as demolishing a building, abolishing an organization or system, or performing a dissection on a living organism.
