試食 (Food tasting)

試食(ししょく) refers to trying a dish or food item. It involves checking the taste and quality of a product or inviting customers to sample it as part of a promotional campaign.

It combines (test) with 食 (eat) to show try out eating something.

食品 (Food product)

食品(しょくひん) is a general term for edible items that people consume to obtain nutrition. It refers to items that can be used directly as ingredients in cooking or eaten as is.

It combines 食 (food) with 品 (goods) to show food as an item of goods.

Meals

給食 (School lunch)

給食(きゅうしょく) refer to meals provided on a regular basis to a specific group of people at facilities such as schools, companies, and hospitals. Generally, the term is most often used to refer to the lunches served to students at elementary and junior high schools in Japan.

It combines 給 (provide) with 食 (meal) to show a meal that is provided.
