Chiyo and her friends from class to go a new year shrine visit together. Chiyo remarks on how crowded it is.

“Oh no, everyone's going to end up separated!”
“All right! Let's decide on a meeting spot!”

Key Points

  • 集合(しゅうごう) is a gathering, and 場所(ばしょ) is a place.
  • The spoken contraction compresses てお to : ()めておこう → ()めとこう.
  • 〜ておく treats choosing the spot as preparation, while volitional おこう turns it into the group proposal “let’s decide”.
3なってまう marks an unwanted result in Kansai speech
  • なってまう is the Kansai counterpart of standard Japanese なってしまう. Here it warns that everyone will end up separated.
  • Opening with あかん adds another Kansai cue and conveys Ayumu’s alarm: “Oh no!”
  • はなればなれ describes people scattered apart. になる marks the change into that state.
