Grammar: Prohibition

Put な after a dictionary-form verb for a blunt prohibition: “do not ~”. Do not confuse it with verb stem + な, which can be an affirmative command.

Usage Notes

Verb dictionary form + な is blunt and forceful. It sounds too direct for polite conversation.

During a competition, Touwata and Mizubashou confront Tsubaki’s group to ask for help. While Touwata lays out her request, Sazanka and Asagao tie the two with ropes, believing their plea to be a trick. Figuring they’ve won, Sazanka and Asagao let down their guard and fall into a trap.

サザンカ:
